Radio stations warned over rush to AI software : Radio stations are being warned not to mistake working AI generated software for a secure and sustainable broadcast system. The warning comes in a blog written by Darren Shortt from The Media Site, looking at the increasing use of AI tools to create playout and other broadcast software. Darren says more stations are experimenting with software created using services including ChatGPT and Claude, but argues that getting something to work is only one part of running technology relied upon around the clock. “A piece of software that works and a sustainable, secure broadcast product are two very different things,” he writes. The blog highlights questions around who maintains the software, fixes problems, monitors security and ensures it works correctly alongside other systems. Geheimzinnigheid rond programma’s voor het Nederlandse leger : In de maand april 1964 stonden er in tal van kranten hele korte berichtjes waarin melding werd gemaakt van het gegeven dat er een samenwerking was tussen onderdelen van het Nederlandse leger en Radio Veronica, waarbij er werd vermeld dat het ging om illegale activiteiten. In ‘de Telegraaf’ van 15 april kreeg de lezer uitgebreidere informatie. Het bleek dat in de studio van Radio Veronica in Hilversum sinds enige tijd muziekprogramma’s werden gemaakt voor het leger, programma’s die werden gepresenteerd door onder meer Joost den Draaijer en Tineke. Ondanks dat men dus berichtte dat de programma’s in alle voorzichtigheid en geheimzinnigheid waren gemaakt, werd in het artikel door een woordvoerder van de afdeling Welzijn in Den Haag bevestigd dat er wel degelijk sprake was van een vorm van samenwerking tussen het leger en Radio Veronica. “Wij maken bij Veronica ...

UK's Ofcom to offer new opportunities for "small-scale" DAB multiplexes : In February 2026, Ofcom published its Licensing Priorities for Broadcast Radio Consultation, setting out the proposed strategic approach to broadcast radio licensing in the UK. Having considered the stakeholder responses, the regulator says that it will focus on licence priorities in the short-to-medium term to include: "a) new opportunities for SSDAB multiplexes in unserved areas; b) applications from existing SSDAB multiplex licensees to improve or extend the coverage of their multiplex; c) a more flexible approach, where appropriate, in our application of the ‘40% ceiling’ rule regarding SSDAB."

Video Veronica Boek : Vorig jaar verscheen het boek ‘Radio Veronica, anker van mijn jeugd’. Het boek is geschreven door Marjan van den Dorpe, fan van de zeezender en de omroep Veronica. Marjan beschrijft de zeezenderperiode van Radio Veronica, maar ook de periode daarna toen Veronica de grootste omroep van Nederland werd en haar vriendschap met Bull Verweij. Op 2 oktober vorig jaar werd het boek van Marjan officieel gepresenteerd bij Museum RockArt. We spraken Marjan wederom tijdens de RockArt ZeezenderDag en maakten dit video interview.

Ofcom to offer more FM and AM radio licences : Ofcom has concluded the future of radio includes more new radio stations around the UK broadcasting on FM and AM. But any new service on the analogue band must be a community-based station, as the regulator says it has zero plans in the short to medium term to allow new commercial radio stations to use FM. The decision follows a consultation launched in February on how the regulator should use its licensing and spectrum resources as the current small scale DAB licensing programme comes towards its conclusion. Ofcom says it will proceed with consideration of new FM community radio licences and has opened a formal “Call for Expressions of Interest” to identify where demand exists. For digital radio, Ofcom will continue licensing small scale DAB multiplexes in unserved areas and prioritise requests from existing operators to improve or extend coverage.
