Skyport Radio will be on 106.5 MHz and on the web from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. tonight, the program will be Hindi film music and some collaborations that George Harrison had with Ravi Shankar



Skyport Radio was the first UK station to broadcast Hindi Film Music (Bollywood) in the early 1970's, shortly after we started BBC Radio London, on 206m M/W, broadcast one hour a week of this popular genre. At the same time George Harrison in collaboration with Ravi Shankar produced a  number of albums which were given heavy airplay on Radio Caroline as Ronan O'Rahilly, Caroline's founder was a friend of George.

 At midnight on August 14th 1967 the British Marine etc. Broadcasting (Offences) Act became law. This forced the closure of Britain's offshore radio stations. With the exception of Radio Caroline they all closed, the most memorable being Radio London 266 known as Big L, they closed at 3pm on this day. Radio Caroline continued with a stirring speech at midnight but in 1968 starved of funds from advertising their ships were towed away to the Netherlands, not to return until the 1970's.
