Skyport Radio -Update

Well the stats are in for the month of January 2022, our streaming platform averaged 5-6 listeners a week, usually much less. It is difficult to gauge the audience of the  radio transmission on 106.5MHz courtesy of our good friends at TenSixtyFive Overdrive who run a community station in the North West of England with a large and enthusiastic audience, supporting local business and causes.

Last Sunday the 106.5MHz transmission was not possible due to weather conditions, so it was an opportunity to see if any FM listeners connected to the stream, apart from our FM operator, nobody did, and the audience was 2 for the duration of the 3 hour programme. At least we managed the 50th Anniversary transmission on December 25th.

In contrast our server stats showed, for example, 112 people had downloaded at least one programme from our Archive, and the DJ's platforms at SoundCloud and YouTube have a combined following of 281, with a high number of views and streams.

So I have decided to cease the stream, and the FM relay, if you enjoyed it then you can always contact the station Email and let me know, so far no one has. The DJ's put in a lot of work to produce their programmes and so they will be available on our new Music Platforms page. We do not have the resources to run 24/7 online, so I think this is best way to get exposure for new music and bands. If you tuned in or listened to the stream, thanks,

Best wishes

Mark King

Postscript: We have just concluded a 24/7 experiment 100 or so hours, the maximum audience was 8, the average 4. The server was Icecast 2.4.4 and Butt 0.1.18 client, with Rhythmbox 3.4.4 as the playout running on Linux Kubuntu 20.0.4.3 LTS The streaming service ceased at 1300 GMT 15th February 2022. The statistics compiled showed the peak listening time was 1600 GMT and the favourite formats were Pop and Reggaeton.
