The Online Safety Bill looks set to shatter privacy in the UK- Proton

The Online Safety Bill looks set to shatter privacy in the UK : The UK Parliament is set to finalize a bill this month that threatens privacy and freedom of speech at a fundamental level. We had hoped for last-minute amendments to be tabled protecting encryption and privacy, but based on information coming from Parliament at the time of writing, this now appears to be a lost cause. The Online Safety Bill is intended to protect people from online abuse, but the law as written would instead empower the UK government to break end-to-end encryption and monitor the most private aspects of your digital life.  Proton, along with much of the tech industry, has condemned the Online Safety Bill , specifically, the clauses that would undermine end-to-end encryption. But politicians have been unwilling to listen, and there looks to be little hope for crucial changes that could save encryption.  As it stands, the Online Safety Bill is one of the most concerning pieces of le...

The Day the Music Died - August 14th 1967

Image
At midnight on August 14th 1967 the British Marine etc. Broadcasting (Offences) Act became law. This forced the closure of Britain's offshore radio stations. With the exception of Radio Caroline they all closed, the most memorable being Radio London 266 known as Big L, they closed at 3pm on this day. Radio Caroline continued with a stirring speech at midnight but in 1968 starved of funds from advertising their ships were towed away to the Netherlands, not to return until the 1970's.

Arnold Levine - Radio Concord, Dynamite 235 : In this new episode I’m talking to Arnold Levine from 1970’s station Radio Concord. We chat about how Concord started, and,  how it went on to be the radical voice of the 1970’s counterculture in London. We also talk about his excellent book, “Banned by the BBC”,  and finally what he has been doing since the end of Radio Concord.  Mark Wakely

FRS Summer Splash to take to airwaves next month

Image
FRS Summer Splash to take to airwaves next month : Dear FRS Friends! The time has finally come... After a (too...) long break, FRS-Holland will return to the airwaves in July/August. A combination of circumstances forced us to be inactive for more than 6 months. We do regret this inactivity but with new energy we will soon return to the shortwave airwaves. Good news: all familiar FRS voices will join: Jan, Mike, Bert, Dave & Peter V. Important: our website frsholland.nl will be offline for a while because we switch to a new provider. That implies we will build a new site starting in July/ August. At the same time you cannot check our website for the latest details regarding the FRS Summer Splash. In this mail we will supply the most important information, share it with any radio friend/ colleague! We hope those who run a blog will share the info with their readers. Thanks in advance!! FRS Summer Splash Following last year's successful edition, we hope you will ...
